BIOGRAPHIE :

Diana Dors naît le 23 octobre 1931 à Swindon, en Grande-Bretagne. A l’âge de huit ans, une rédaction ayant comme thème «quel métier voudriez-vous exercer quand vous serez grand?» lui permet déjà d’exprimer son désir de devenir vedette de cinéma. Déterminée à réaliser son rêve, elle débute à l’écran en 1947. Durant les quelques années qui suivent, elle se fait notamment remarquer grâce à ses rôles de jeunes filles précoces très intéressées par le sexe opposé, comme dans «Here Come the Huggetts» (1948) ou encore «A Boy, a Girl and A Bike» (1949).

Cette pulpeuse star blonde, considérée comme la Marilyn Monroe anglaise, est à l’apogée de sa carrière dans les années 50. Dotée d’un sens de la publicité très développé, elle fait parler d’elle le plus souvent possible par des moyens aussi divers qu’une série de photos sexy en trois dimensions, une exhibition en bikini de fourrure au festival de Venise de 1955 ou encore des confessions «scandaleuses» sur sa vie privée.

Elle est notamment l’interprète de «My Wife’s Lodger» (1952), «Is your Honeymoon Really Necessary ?» (1953), «The Weak and the Wicked» (1954), «A Kid for Two Farthings» (1955), «Value For Money» (1955), «Yield to the Night» (1956), «The Long Haul» (1957), «Tread Softly Stranger» (1958), «Passport to Shame» (1959), …

Durant la même période, elle est en outre la vedette de «La Ragazza del Palio» (1957) en Italie ainsi que de deux films à Hollywood, «The Unholy Wife» (1957) et «I Married a Woman» (1958) qui ne réussissent pas à l’imposer auprès du public américain.

Au cours des années 60, sa carrière cinématographique décline et sa silhouette s’épaissit mais elle ne sombre pas pour autant dans l’anonymat. Conservant un important capital de sympathie auprès des Britanniques, pour qui elle fait presque figure d’institution, elle apparaît sur scène et à la télévision. Au grand écran, elle est désormais d’avantage utilisée dans des seconds rôles et on peut encore la voir dans, entre autres, «West Eleven» (1963), «Berserk» (1967), «Baby Love» (1968), «Deep End» (1970), «Theatre of Blood» (1973), «The Amorous Milkman» (1975), … Au début des années 80, elle apparaît en bonne fée dans le clip video de la chanson «Prince Charming» du groupe pop Adam and the Ants.

Victime du cancer, Diana Dors s’éteint le 4 mai 1984. N’arrivant pas à surmonter le chagrin causé par sa disparition, son dernier époux, Alan Lake, se suicide cinq mois après son décès, le jour de l’anniversaire de leur rencontre.
